BLUES Festival - Saturday, August 11, 2018
What's here: THE MUSIC PARKING FOOD DRINK CAMPING GETTING HERE
The music: The bands perform under a large marquee which has the sides lifted for good visibility; if it rains the sides can be let down and everyone can crowd in for a more intimate experience. Nearby is a firepit which is lit as the sun goes down, and many people enjoy sitting around the campfire while listening to the last few bands, and then continue on with songs and stories around the fire until the wee hours. There plenty of space to wander around, get away from the crowds, or enjoy twiddling your toes in the refreshing nearby brook.
Parking: The car park can accommodate about 200 vehicles and the access is easy for any size of vehicle - - bicycles, cars, camper-vans, caravans, buses or trucks. We don't have any "hook-up" facilities but you are welcome to make use of the compost loos which are a two minute walk across the footbridge, You're welcome to come a day or so before the festival and stay a day or two after. The car park is a grass field so comfortable for those who want to camp near their vehicle. We charge for overnight camping: $5 per person per night.
Food: During events we do our own catering, so the quality and variety of food is much more interesting than some other venues. We feature home-cooked everything, using our home-grown organic ingredients where possible. We have an open-plan kitchen near the bandstand so you can watch the cooks at work while you munch away on this or that, have a full meal or just a quick snack. The kitchen is open from 10am until 11pm, and on sunday morning there's bacon or cheese butties, or for the aficionados there's the famous Radford Mill big breakfast. Prices are always very reasonable.
Drink: At most events we run a fully stocked bar next to the kitchen, and we feature a range of local ciders and ales - - several flavours to choose from. There's also spirits, mixers and soft drinks, our own organic apple juice, elderflower and rhubarb cordial, hot tea and coffee. Prices are moderate, roughly in line with pub prices in Bristol.
Camping: The campsite is nearby, and folks can come a day or so early and stay a day or two after; and if you have a bit to drink during the festival you won't have to worry about driving home. There's compost loos and nearby fresh water taps, and wood-fired hot showers. Overnight camping is £5 per person per night. We don't count young people. Also, you can hire a Shepherd's hut for a more cosy night's sleep - - click here for info.
Getting here: Aim for Radford (BA2 0QF). We have two entrances, both of which have large "pub-signs" at the side of the road. For major events there will be "Radford Mill" signs on all the approach roads within one mile of the farm and the car park is at the Mill Lane entrance to the farm. This is the entrance for the Mill, the polytunnels and the Piggery. For other events or locations (e.g. general camping, shepherd's huts, the Farmhouse, the River Meadow, Deeke's Hill) you may want the Farm driveway which is about 450 metres further west, towards Withy Mills and Paulton (nearest postcode is BS39 7PU).
